A Rich, Warm Red — For the Holiday Kitchen and Every Season After

A note on the color: this is a rich, warm red with earthy undertones — not the bright, cool red of traditional Christmas imagery. Think closer to a deep garnet than a fire-engine red. It photographs as a bold, confident red and works beautifully paired with white, natural, or black towels. If you're looking for that specific warm, rustic-leaning red for your kitchen or holiday decor, this is it.

Red is the most versatile seasonal color in the lineup — it works for Christmas kitchen decor, farmhouse and rustic kitchen aesthetics year-round, Valentine's Day embroidery, and patriotic summer holidays. Same 130 thread count, 3 oz heavyweight cotton as the white. Same 4-side hem, corner hanging loop, pre-washed construction, fast-color dye that holds through regular washing.

Mary's Kitchen was the first brand in North America to introduce colored flour sack towels (2017). The red has been a consistent bestseller for both kitchen use and craft work since launch.

How People Use Them

The Most Seasonally Versatile Color in the Lineup

Holiday Kitchen Decor A set of red flour sack towels draped over an oven handle or stacked on a counter is one of the simplest ways to shift the kitchen into the holiday season. Pair with white or natural towels for a classic red-and-white kitchen look. The warm, rich tone reads as festive without being cartoonishly bright.
Farmhouse & Rustic Kitchen Style Red is a core accent color in farmhouse, Italian country, and rustic kitchen aesthetics year-round — not just at Christmas. The earthy warmth of this red pairs naturally with wood tones, brick, wrought iron, and cream or natural cotton. A permanent fixture in the kitchen, not a seasonal swap.
Embroidery & Holiday Craft Projects Red flour sack towels are a seasonal staple for embroiderers making holiday kitchen gift sets. White, cream, and gold thread read beautifully against the warm red base. Popular for Christmas motifs, monograms, and seasonal lettering. The same 130 TC weave that works for embroidery year-round, with a base that's specifically in demand October–December.
Everyday Kitchen Use The 3 oz heavyweight cotton is fully functional for dish drying, surface wiping, and kitchen tasks — it's not a display-only color. Red hides staining from tomato sauces, fruit juices, and other naturally colored foods better than white. Practical for everyday cooking households where white towels show every splash.
Valentine's Day & Patriotic Holidays Beyond Christmas, red is the base color for Valentine's Day kitchen decor and craft projects in February, and pairs with blue and white for Canada Day and July 4th. A single set of red towels covers multiple seasonal moments throughout the year without needing a different purchase each time.
Gifting & Craft Resale Embroidered red towels — especially holiday sets — are one of the most popular items at craft fairs and on Etsy during Q4. A set of 12 blank red towels provides enough for a full craft run of personalized holiday kitchen gifts. The rich warm tone photographs well on both light and dark backgrounds.
Crafters & Embroiderers

White & Gold on Red — The Classic Holiday Combination

The warm red base is a natural companion for white and gold thread — the combination reads as festive and traditional without requiring any design sophistication. A simple white monogram or minimal holiday motif on a rich red flour sack towel looks finished and intentional. It's one of the fastest craft-to-gift turnarounds in the embroidery world.

For HTV and screen printers: white vinyl and white ink apply directly to red cotton without an underbase. Gold metallic vinyl and foil transfers also photograph exceptionally well on the warm red base — the earthy undertones complement gold better than a cool bright red would.

Hand & Machine Embroidery White, cream, gold, and silver thread all read clearly on warm red. Use tearaway stabilizer on the back. For machine embroidery, standard white bobbin thread works without special adjustment for most designs.
HTV & Iron-On Vinyl White and gold HTV apply directly at standard cotton press settings. No underbase needed. Gold and metallic foil finishes are especially striking on this warm red — the tones complement each other naturally.
Screen & Block Printing White opaque ink prints cleanly on red — no underbase required for white. For gold, use metallic screen printing ink with a medium mesh. Water-based inks work best on pre-washed cotton.
Color Stays Fast-color dye — permanently set after the first wash. Wash first batch with similar colors as standard precaution, then launder normally. No ongoing color transfer to thread or vinyl with regular use.
Care Instructions

Easy Care. Color Holds.

Pre-washed and pre-shrunk. The red is fast-dyed — permanently set into the cotton fiber. First wash with similar warm colors as a standard precaution for any deeply dyed textile, then launder normally. No ongoing bleed after that first wash.

🌊 Machine Wash Cold or warm. First wash with similar colors.
💨 Tumble Dry Low Remove promptly to reduce wrinkles.
🚫 No Bleach Will strip the dye. Use oxygen brightener if needed.
🚫 No Fabric Softener Reduces absorbency and can affect dye over time.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is this a bright Christmas red or a warm red?

This is a rich, warm red with earthy undertones — closer to a deep garnet than the bright, cool red of traditional Christmas imagery. It reads as a bold, confident red in person and photographs well, but it has a warmth to it rather than a cool or neon brightness. If you're looking for that specific rustic, earthy red for a farmhouse kitchen or a warm holiday palette, this is it. If you need a cool, bright primary red, this may not be the right match.

Will the red bleed or fade after washing?

The red is fast-dyed — permanently set into the cotton fiber. As a precaution standard for any deeply dyed red textile, wash with similar warm colors on the first wash. After that first wash, launder normally with any other items — no ongoing color transfer. Avoid bleach, which will strip any dye regardless of quality. The color holds through regular washing without fading.

Are red flour sack towels good for holiday embroidery?

Yes — red is one of the most popular colors for seasonal embroidery. White, cream, and gold thread read clearly against the warm red base without needing any special setup. Use tearaway stabilizer on the back; for machine embroidery, standard white bobbin thread works for most designs. The 130 TC weave holds embroidery thread cleanly and supports both dense fills and open running stitch designs.

What colors pair well with red flour sack towels?

White and natural are the most classic pairings — alternating red and white in a stack is a timeless holiday kitchen look. Black also works well for a bolder, more graphic combination. For farmhouse style, pairing with natural (unbleached) flour sack towels gives a warm, rustic look. All six colors are available in the same 130 TC cotton so they stack and display consistently together.

Do you sell red flour sack towels in bulk?

Yes — for orders of 60 or more, wholesale pricing applies with no account setup required. Visit our wholesale blank collection for per-unit pricing tiers. Red is stocked in volume at both US warehouses and ships within 1 business day.

Are these pre-washed?

Yes — every towel is pre-washed and pre-shrunk. For embroidery and craft use, pre-washing removes finishing agents so thread, HTV, and screen printing inks adhere without a separate prep wash. The 27×27 size is the finished measurement — no shrinkage on first use.

Love these towels

The Mary's Kitchen Flour Sack towels are thick, uniform and well made. I like the colors because they do not show stains, so I don't need to bleach them, which only wears them out. I hang them after removing from the washer and am able to fold them evenly afterward.

Great color.

It's fun to have different colors to work with. The red definitely bleeds a bit, but after the first wash, the color seems stable. I will try different colors very soon.

Red is not as pictured

Red towels are an orange red. Picture on web site seemed more like a Christmas red. These are the exact towels I ordered on Amazon under the brand Auntie Em. Price is lower on Amazon. One photo shows an older towel I have that is more Christmas red next to towels with the white band that were purchased here. The other photo shows the tag from green towels I bought on Amazon vs the red towel purchased here.
