Deep Royal Blue — Built for Coastal Kitchens, Team Gifting, and Bold Graphic Work

A deep, saturated blue that reads as bold royal blue in bright light and rich navy in lower light — making it one of the most versatile colors in the lineup. It's the natural choice for coastal and nautical kitchen setups, for embroiderers making team-color and school-color gifts, and for screen printers and HTV crafters who need a reliable royal blue blank that takes white ink cleanly. It also happens to be the most universally flattering kitchen blue there is.

Same 130 thread count, 3 oz heavyweight cotton as every other color in the lineup. Same uniform 27×27 cut, 4-side hem, corner hanging loop, pre-washed construction. The blue is fast-dyed — permanently set, holds its depth through regular washing without fading toward a washed-out pale blue.

Mary's Kitchen was the first brand in North America to introduce colored flour sack towels (2017). The blue has earned the same reputation as the white — consistent color, consistent cut, ready to use straight out of the bag.

How People Use Them

Coastal Kitchens. Team Colors. Bold Prints.

Coastal & Nautical Kitchen Decor Navy and royal blue are the signature colors of coastal, nautical, and New England kitchen aesthetics. A set of blue flour sack towels stacked or draped alongside white is the foundational accent for this look — the deep blue anchors the palette without competing with other decor. Works in beach cottages, lake houses, and coastal-inspired homes year-round.
Team & School Color Gifting Royal blue is one of the most common team and school colors in North America. Embroiderers and screen printers use these as blanks for game-day gifts, tailgate setups, school fundraiser items, and personalized fan gifts. The bold, accurate royal blue base makes gold, white, and silver designs pop with exactly the right color intensity for team-branded work.
Screen Printing & HTV — Bold White Designs White ink on royal blue is one of the highest-contrast single-color print combinations available. Screen printers use deep blue blanks specifically for bold logo and typographic designs where white needs to read at full intensity. The 130 TC smooth cotton weave takes ink registration cleanly, and the pre-washed surface means no finishing agents to interfere with adhesion.
Classic Navy Kitchen Decor Navy blue is consistently in the top tier of American kitchen color palettes — paired with white, cream, natural wood, or stainless steel. A permanent kitchen color for households with traditional, transitional, or contemporary aesthetics. The depth of this blue works as an accent without overwhelming the space, particularly stacked in sets of three or hung from an oven handle.
Embroidery — White, Gold & Silver Thread Royal blue is a proven embroidery base: white, gold, cream, and silver thread all read clearly with sharp contrast. Popular for monograms, coastal motifs (anchors, waves, shells), and team and school designs. The 130 TC tight weave supports both dense fills and fine detail work without thread showing through. Pre-washed so it's ready to hoop straight out of the bag.
Patriotic & Holiday Use Royal blue completes the red, white, and blue trio for July 4th and other patriotic occasions — mix sets of red, white (or natural), and blue towels for a coordinated seasonal display. Also used for Hanukkah decor (blue and white) and winter holiday setups where blue plays a role in the palette.
Crafters, Printers & Embroiderers

White on Royal Blue — The Bold Print Combination

White ink, white thread, and white vinyl on a deep royal blue base produces some of the most striking results in the flour sack craft world. The contrast is immediate and the blue reads as confident and bold rather than background noise. It's the combination embroidery sellers use for high-value monogram sets, and the combination screen printers reach for when a design needs to project authority.

The 130 TC smooth weave matters here. Ink and vinyl sit on the surface cleanly without bleeding into the weave structure. Embroidery thread lies flat without sinking. Pre-washed cotton bonds with HTV and screen printing inks without a prep wash — just press or print straight out of the bag.

Machine & Hand Embroidery White, gold, cream, and silver thread all work with high contrast. Use tearaway stabilizer on the back. Standard white bobbin thread. For hand embroidery, transfer designs with white chalk or white transfer paper — it shows clearly on the dark blue base.
HTV & Iron-On Vinyl White HTV reads at full brightness on royal blue — no underbase needed. Gold, silver, and holographic finishes also photograph and display beautifully. Press at standard cotton settings. Pre-washed for clean adhesion.
Screen Printing White opaque ink is the go-to single-color choice. The 130 TC smooth weave gives clean edge definition even on fine detail. Water-based and plastisol both work well on pre-washed cotton. For multi-color designs, white underbase first then overprint.
Team & School Colors Royal blue pairs with gold, white, silver, and orange for common team color combinations. The accurate saturated blue means team colors read true without needing color correction. Holds through repeated washing at full color depth.
Care Instructions

Easy Care. Deep Color Holds.

The blue is fast-dyed — permanently set into the cotton fiber. First wash with similar blues or darks as a standard precaution for any deeply dyed textile, then launder normally. The color maintains its depth through regular washing — no fading toward a pale or washed-out blue over time.

🌊 Machine Wash Cold or warm. First wash with similar colors.
💨 Tumble Dry Low Remove promptly to reduce wrinkles.
🚫 No Bleach Will strip the dye. Use oxygen brightener if needed.
🚫 No Fabric Softener Reduces absorbency and can affect dye over time.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is this royal blue or navy blue?

It's a deep, saturated blue that sits between the two — it reads as bold royal blue in bright light and richer navy in lower light or shadow. Customers who have purchased describe it as a "beautiful blue" and it photographs as a strong, confident blue rather than a muted or pale one. If you're looking for either a true royal blue or a classic navy blue for your project, this color delivers both depending on context.

Will the blue fade or bleed after washing?

The blue is fast-dyed — permanently set into the cotton fiber, not a surface treatment. Wash with similar blues or dark colors on the first wash as a standard precaution for any deeply dyed textile, then launder normally alongside any other items. The color holds its depth through regular washing without fading toward a pale or washed-out blue. Avoid bleach, which will strip any dye regardless of quality.

Are these good for screen printing or HTV?

Yes — royal blue is one of the most popular blanks for bold white-ink screen printing and white HTV. The 130 TC smooth weave gives clean ink edge registration even on fine details, and the pre-washed surface means no finishing agents to interfere with adhesion. White opaque ink applies directly without an underbase. For multi-color designs with light colors, white underbase first. For HTV: standard cotton press settings, no underbase required.

Can I use these for team or school color projects?

Yes — royal blue is one of the most common team and school colors, and these towels are a popular blank for embroiderers and screen printers making game-day gifts, tailgate setups, and school fundraiser items. The accurate, saturated blue means your gold, white, or silver designs read true without color correction. For bulk orders, wholesale pricing applies at 60 pieces or more — see our wholesale collection for per-unit pricing.

Do you sell blue flour sack towels in bulk?

Yes — for orders of 60 or more, wholesale pricing applies with no account setup required. Visit our wholesale blank collection for per-unit pricing tiers. Royal blue is stocked in volume at both US warehouses and ships within 1 business day.

Are these pre-washed?

Yes — every towel is pre-washed and pre-shrunk. For screen printing, HTV, and embroidery, this means finishing agents are already removed so your inks and adhesives bond without a prep wash. The 27×27 measurement is the finished size — no shrinkage on first use.

Very nice towels

You weren't kidding - these towels are super absorbent. They make my old polyester towels seem like they don't absorb anything! I figured with how relatively thin they are that they couldn't absorb a whole lot, but I was completely wrong. Of course they do wrinkle super bad in the dryer, but that's to be expected with 100% cotton. I love these so far!
